Cyclone Kenneth Hit Mozambique Ahead of Heavy Rainfall

Northern Mozambique has been hit with Cyclone Kenneth which arrived late Thursday just six weeks after Cyclone Idai ripped into central Mozambique and killed more than 700 people. This was the first time in recorded history that the southern African nation has been hit by two cyclones in one season. Heavy rainfall lashed the Northern Mozambique on Saturday after Cyclone Kenneth, killing five people.

Nasa shot for Cyclone Idai.

The number of deaths were curtailed this time as aid groups have warned the nation about the aftermath of cyclone such as heavy wind, heavy rainfall, flooding, mudslides which caused most deaths during the aftermath of Cyclone Idai.

Cyclone Kenneth, packing the power of a Category 4 hurricane, tore into a region that had never seen such a fierce storm during the age of satellite observation. Its remnants could dump twice as much heavy rain as Cyclone Idai did some months ago, the U.N. World Program has said.

"More than 30,000 people were evacuated from high-risk areas in Mozambique ahead of Cyclone Kenneth and 70,000 people are still at risk", the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said Friday.

In parts of northernmost Cabo Delgado province were partially or fully destroyed, about 3,500 homes lost, with electricity cut and at least one key bridge collapsed.

This natural disaster that has happened simultaneously has major concerns about Climate Change.
