Kelly Clarkson Undergoes Appendix Surgery Hours After Hosting Billboard Music Award

Singer Kelly Clarkson who hosted Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on Wednesday night and also performed her new song "Broken & Beautiful", had undergone an appendix surgery upon flying back to L.A. on Thursday.

Appendicitis -- inflammation of the appendix, a finger-shaped pouch that sits on the lower right-hand side of the colon -- is a common surgical emergency, with over 250,000 cases each year in the United States. A blockage inside of the appendix causes appendicitis.

According to ET, the singer who won the first 'American Idol' in 2002 and also won 2 Grammy Awards, had been suffering from a painful bout of appendicitis all week.
Clarkson also tweeted about her surgery, and how she dealt with the pain. She admitted that she was brought to tears by the experience.

"Not gonna lie.... I may or may not have broken down in tears after the show from pain," she tweeted. "BUT thanks 2 all the amazing people @ Cedars-Sinai I flew home directly after the event, nailed the surgery early this morning, & feeling awesome now! Bye bye appendix #TheShowMustGoOn."

The singer is now home resting and recuperating and plans to be back to work on The Voice for their live show on Monday.
