BurnaBoy Quits Social Media

Nigerian Music Star, Damini Ogulu aka BurnaBoy who took the World stage with his performance at the 2019 Coachella Music Festival has announced his permanent exit from all platforms of social media.

The "YE" singer shared this on Wednesday via his Instagram page @burnaboygram, explaining that his page will only share information on music and upcoming shows henceforth.

He said, “I am leaving all social media platforms permanently. They are now strictly for my show dates and new music. My social media will now be in the full control of my management. Love and positivity to all.”

BurnaBoy had made headlines from his opinions on social media. Though he hasn't given any specific reason for his exit, it is assumed that his sudden exit from Social Media platform was triggered by the high level of backlash he received from his recent comments and opinions.

In January, He accused Coachella of degrading him as an Artist because his name was written in small font on the festival's posters. He referred to himself as an "African Giant."

In May, he expressed his sadness about his fellow Artists, who feels very excited whenever they sign foreign music management deals. He said, “You guys don’t know what you’re doing. I will forever be grateful to my manager/mother for making sure I will never be an “international” VICTIM.” He received a lot of backlash because people thought he was referencing 'Tiwa Savage's international deal' with Universal Music Group. Tiwa defended BurnaBoy in an interview stating that most International deals doesn't favor the musician but rather favors the company itself. She also confirmed that her own deal with 'Universal Music Group' took her a year to conclude. This enabled her to fully understand the terms, the conditions and the benefits.

Recently he attacked Nigerian Artists that boast about their music streaming numbers saying that the numbers doesn't reflect being talented or being a good artist. People speculated he was refering to Mayorkun.

Fans had advised him afterwards, to stop being judgmental and show love to his colleagues. They urged him to accept/respect his colleagues' decisions so to avoid destroying his reputation and relationships in the industry.
