Nigerian Senate Confirms Abike Dabiri-Erewa's Appointment. Now CEO Nigerian Diaspora Commission





Nigerian Senate has on Thursday, May 9, confirmed the nomination of Honourable Abike Dabiri as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission. The Senate made the confirmation and subsequent announcement on Thursday via its verified Twitter handle @NGRSenate.


Dabiri-Erewa who is currently the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora was a three-term member of the House of Representative representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos between 2003 and 2015. As a Reps member, she was chairman of House Committee on Diaspora Affairs; and had sponsored the bill seeking the establishment of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission.


Sen. Rose Oko (PDP-Cross River) read a report about the nomination and their investigation at plenary presided over by President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki in Abuja., which was followed by the confirmation.


"The committee after a critical scrutiny of the curriculum vitae and other accompanying documents of the nominee were satisfied about her integrity, exposure, suitability, competence and experiences in politics and public service, found Dabiri-Erewa as fit and proper person for appointment as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission,” she said.


The Senate President also congratulated her for the confirmation:


“On behalf of the 8th Senate, let me congratulate Hon. @AbikeDabiri-Erewa on this appointment which is well deserved. We wish her a successful tenure and hope she will be a great Ambassador for the country,” Saraki said.
